All lives should matter, but this country has systematically devalued the lives of Black people.
The Western New York Law Center joins with the community in mourning the killing of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police and in calling for justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the thousands of Black people killed by police (and vigilante) violence.
We decry all acts of violence against Black and brown people and stand in solidarity with those protesting against endemic police violence and racial injustices. Until structural racism is dismantled, we will never achieve justice for all. As longtime champions of those who have been denied access to the justice system, equality and inclusion are among the Law Center’s most cherished values. All institutions must be subject to and accountable to our laws, and our laws must be fairly applied and fairly enforced by those who control the legal system, including members of law enforcement.
We are committed to continuing to fight for policies that address racial and economic injustice and build safe and inclusive communities.
